Mind in the Making

There is compelling scientific evidence that emotional development and academic learning are far more closely intertwined in the early years than has been previously understood. Today's early care and education teachers are coping with a substantial number of young children who struggle with emotional and behavioral problems that pose a risk for early school success.

To provide early childhood teachers with training and access to help and ensure children at risk for emotional or behavioral problems have the support they need during their most critical stage of development, United Way and Harvard Achievement Support Initiative brought Mind in the Making, a comprehensive training developed by the nationally recognized Families and Work Institute (FWI), to Massachusetts.

Mind in the Making offers a first-of-its-kind approach to translating what we know about how young children really learn to practical application in program practice. MITM stresses the importance of relationships as essential to children’s learning and development. It helps help teachers better understand this critical link and how they can adapt a relationship-centered approach to support children’s learning.
